From chunky hair beads and rollers to sink strainers and brake pedals, Nairobi-centered photographer Thandiwe Muriu (previously) finds stylish use for standard objects. Worn as eyeglasses that obscure a subject’s id, the repurposed goods insert cultural aptitude to Muriu’s lively portraits and are linked to both of those her history and Kenyan daily life, much more broadly.
