Beautiful World by Jinchen Han

Paris from Notre Dame by Jinchen Han; Watercolor

Watercolorist Jinchen Han’s solo exhibit showcases his travels from around the world, often highlighting the location’s unique architecture. It is on view through August 7.

2022 Student/Faculty Show

“A Catwork Orange” by Lori Welch Brown; Acrylic

Our annual Student/Faculty Show gives our student body and instructors an opportunity to shine! This year it returns online and includes artworks completed by students between the March 2020 and Winter 2022 terms, as well as signature works by instructors. It was juried by Scott Hutchison, an Associate Professor of Practice in painting and drawing at Georgetown University and former Art League painting and drawing instructor, and is on view through July 15.

Join us via Zoom this Sunday, 2–3:30 pm, as we celebrate these artists during the Virtual Reception and Awards Ceremony. RSVP here.

Robert Novel Paintings

Untitled 2015; Acrylic on canvas

Throughout the last decade, Robert Novel completed over one hundred and fifty paintings in a limited palette ranging from white to soft gray to black, often incorporating raw canvas or linen as a compositional element of the work. The nuance and rawness of the visible linen or canvas contrasts the flat application of pigment and the strength of the geometric forms. Robert Novel Paintings, an exhibit featuring twenty-two pieces from his series, opens Saturday, July 9, at Hemphill, and will be on view through August 13. Hemphill is located at 434 K Street NW.

The Space We Occupy, at Solas Nua,  is a group exhibition of work by six visual artists based in Dublin, Cork and New York City. The artists represent the depth and breadth of contemporary visual art being made across the island of Ireland today and by the many Irish artists who call the U.S. home. The works consider our relationship with place and time; from the macro to the micro—Earth’s place in the solar system, humankind’s brief time on Earth, the place we occupy in community and the physical relationship between artwork and viewer. It is on view through July 31; 1777 Church Street NW.

Enjoy the weekend!
