Arm Band Tattoos With an Hawaiian Theme – Make Sure You Get an Authentic Design

Hawaiian art is becoming more and more popular in the tattoo industry. Anything that has to do with Hawaii: hibiscus flowers, the sun, sand, beach, turtles, dolphins, etc, is very popular in tattoo art these days. Arm band tattoos in particular are well known to have these types of elements.

This trend is part of the tribal tattoo movement. Tribal designs have been popular for centuries. Cultures such as the Aztecs, Celts, and ancient Polynesians have contributed a lot to tribal art. In WW II, a lot of soldiers began sporting Hula girls tattoos. These days, it seems anything Hawaiian and tribal related is included in tattoo art.

The interest in both of these things has contributed to the tribal tattoo market. An increasing number of artists are jumping on the bandwagon and creating designs for arm band tattoos. The great thing is that there is still a lot of room for this market to grow, so if you want one on your arm, you won’t have to worry about everybody else sporting something too similar.

Needless to say, there is a lot of controversy over this topic, just as there is over any popular trend. If you look online, you will find that there is a lot of controversy over Japanese Kanji tattoos as well. Why? Well, anytime you try to get a tattoo depicting something from another culture, you need to make sure it’s accurate! How would you feel if somebody wrongly interpreted something from your culture? Even arm band tattoos that are accurate can be considered as something tacky.

Imagine going to an American restaurant on the other side of the world. At first, you are excited, but when you get there, you realize that everything is either outdated, misinterpreted, or tacky. Imagine how you would feel, and you will understand why Polynesian tattoo art is kind of controversial. A lot of the designs you will find on the internet were drawn by people who aren’t even familiar with the culture; or, they like to think that they are, but are sorely mistaken.

When searching for arm band tattoos, you need to make sure you find something that is drawn by an actual professional who knows a lot about the culture. Don’t believe everything that the website tells you, since it could just be false information ripped off from another site. You know that old saying that something can be “lost in translation?” Well, that saying also applies when it comes to tribal tattoo art!

What you need to do is go visit a real tattoo artist who specializes in the designs of that particular culture. Have a professional artist do research and help you come up with a real design. It might cost extra to have a customized design, but it will be worth every penny if drawn correctly and its meaning is completely accurate.

Arm band tattoos are going to be on you for the rest of your life, therefore it is wise to invest in both time and money. Just because something or someone on the internet states that something is really from the Hawaiian culture doesn’t mean that it really is. Consult with a professional who really knows what he or she is doing so that you can get a top-notch tattoo.
